The "IF 16"
Leadership Attributes
Number 12: Stamina – The Will to Hold On When You Have Nothing Left
"And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!""
Every leader must have stamina to survive and thrive in a high-stress environment. Leaders face emotional and physical challenges that can be exhausting. Captain James Mulligan was a P.O.W. for 7 years during the Vietnam War. During his captivity he endured torture, abuse, neglect, and severe deprivation.
Stamina and maintaining energy require:
1. Remaining true to one’s values and principles
2. Maintaining faith in something larger than oneself
3. Keeping one’s end-goal in mind
4. Finding and celebrating small victories.
