The "If 16"
Leadership Attributes
Number 15: Enthusiasm – The Energy to Fill Every Minute
“If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run..."
Enthusiasm is the intensity of one’s feeling; it is an excited interest or eagerness. Enthusiasm is contagious, and enthusiastic leaders are capable of driving extraordinary results. Thomas Edison’s enthusiasm for invention and change is evident in the number of patents he was awarded and his approach to innovation. He once said, “Results? Why, man, I have gotten lots of results! If I find 10,000 ways something won't work, I haven't failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is often a step forward….”
Enthusiasm requires:
1. Imagination, creativity and thinking big
2. Challenging conventional thinking
3. Working hard
4. Remaining confident
5. Loving what you do!
